Stacey Dash Remains Clueless About Race In America

Stacey Dash is another Fox contributor who talks way too much and freely gives her opinion when no one asks for it. She’s still continuing her campaign to erase blackness. She doesn’t understand that that’s what she’s doing, but that’s what Stacey is doing. What was it she said this time?

Appearing on Fox News’ Fox & Friends with host Steve Doocy on Wednesday morning, Stacey Dash gave her opinion on the current backlash against the recent Academy Award nominees and the #OscarsSoWhite discussion, as well as the idea of boycotting the award ceremony all together. Jada Pinkett Smith made a video in which she talked about boycotting, noting how upset she is that people of color continue to get overlooked.

“I think it’s ludicrous. Because we have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration. And if we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like B.E.T. and the B.E.T. Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard.”

This is the first thing. People thinking that all ethnicities are currently on the same level playing field, and any minority demanding acknowledgement and recognition is automatically “unfair.” Or going so far to say that, in order to justify Black History Month, there should also be a White History Month. Because come on, guys, that’s not fair. White people deserve to be acknowledged, too. Because white people get discriminated against just like minorities.

No, that’s incorrect. And yes, Stacey does think Black History Month should be abolished, only to exist if we also have a White History Month. So she is playing the role of the Safe Black Friend, and one who victim blames and thinks racism was in the past, and is completely and utterly confused about life because of all the whiteness that surrounds her daily life. Having and celebrating your own separate culture is wrong.

“There shouldn’t be a Black History Month. You know? We’re Americans. Period. That’s it.”

She goes on to kind of suggest that maybe the Academy might need to be more diverse. But we’ve got a black president who gets most of his funding from Hollywood, so why don’t we have more diversity and why is this issue only just now being brought up?

These are her words, not mine. And she remains clueless. Stacey doesn’t understand white privilege and is probably someone who would argue that it doesn’t exist. She also wouldn’t understand the advantages she has being surrounded by all these white people, which is something that has clearly affected her worldview. She’s in a bubble.

Stacey wouldn’t understand that racism is systemic and that black people cannot be racist. People of color don’t have centuries of institutionalized power, like how white men do, with preferences and prejudices that can be imposed on the majority of Americans. She also wouldn’t understand the difference between racist and prejudice.

So, with Stacey’s Black History/White History complaint, this notion of “we have to be fair to everyone” is a bit misguided. The reason BET and Image Awards and NAACP exist is because black people were not getting the recognition they deserved, for working just as hard if not harder than their white peers. None of this would have to happen if it weren’t for systemic racism. If genocide and slavery didn’t give birth to this country, we may now be able to avoid those kinds of things. But that’s not what happened.

We, the civilized, intelligent, progressive people, are left cleaning up the mess left behind by privileged, racist white men, and yes, that includes creating Black History Month and our own network to celebrate and showcase black entertainment.

Get over it.
